Summer 2017: Family Road Trip Adventures

aspen colorado maroon bells

I’ve always marked summers from Memorial Day to Labor Day Weekend. I think it made it easy since my birthday (6/2) and my brother’s birthday (9/5) usually fall around those dates. So growing up, my family always marked our birthdays as the start and ends to summer. Needless to say, I think Josh and I have now done the same since little Cam has entered our lives. So with Summer 2017 coming to a close, I can’t wait to share all our little adventures as a family, why I took a break from blogging and share a fun collaboration I have in the works with Glamping with Pets at this dreamy mountain getaway

Summer 2017

I feel like this summer came and gone at a reasonable pace for the first time ever (usually it just flies by!) Maybe it was due to actually soaking up all these moments with Cam and taking a break from blogging and social media for a while. It was crazy for me to not have logged onto to WordPress for almost 3 months. And I haven’t posted on Instagram in over 3 weeks. Blogging has become a real numbers game and the pressure can really get to me. The whole Instagram engagement and needing to be consistent just wasn’t my number one priority.

My number one priority was being present with my baby, my husband and enjoying this time with Cam as a new family of 3. If there’s one thing that I have heard over and over again was to enjoy this time with my baby and that time flies. So Josh and I made a conscious effort this summer to really be in the moment. We unplugged and just explored, played and napped through summer 2017. It was so glorious.

And I can’t wait to share with you guys our little experiences and travels. From Telluride, to Zion and California, little Cam has proven to be quite the happy little explorer.

This was our first trip ever with Cam and he did so good! We went over Memorial Day Weekend and braved the 6+ hour road trip to get there and it was so worth it. We quickly learned that traveling with a baby is different, especially since we had to pull over every 2-3 hours to nurse, change and play/stretch our legs. Even with the breaks, we didn’t it because the experience is one we will never forget.

On our drive back from Telluride, we took the scenic route to Carbondale and decided to stop by the Maroon Bells in Aspen. They are just so stunning! We had seen them once before during the fall and the springtime is just as beautiful! It’s stunning and just so full of color.

We started a long road trip (around 20 days) at the end of June and Moab, Utah was a first stop. We had been a year before and it’s just the coolest place. We spent some time exploring Arches National Park for a few hours in the early morning before it got too hot. We kept the hiking to a minimum and mainly explored Double Arches, The Windows, and Courtroom Wash.

Zion National Park

Our next stop on our long road trip was Zion National Park. Our time spent outdoors was limited due to a big fire just north of Zion and didn’t want to expose Cam to the ash in the air. It was ok with us since the scenic drive is just so beautiful. We pulled over a few times to take some pictures and take care of Cam because he had a blowout haha. We also spent a fun night in Springdale and ate at Bit & Spur. Such good food!

The whole reason this road trip started was because my husband had to attend a trade show in Vegas for about 5 days. I kind of jokingly through out the idea that Cam and I should tag along for the fun. Since the trade show was the week before the 4th of July and Vegas is only 4-5 hours from home, Josh decided to cash in on some of his PTO time to spend the following week in California and have family and friends meet Cam.

However, I will admit, I had some concerns about being in Vegas with Cam, especially with the heat and smoking in all of the casinos.  Luckily, Josh’s mom came out to meet us in Vegas and we got to tag along to a lot of the company events and dinners, which made it fun and a safe place for Cam. It was amazing because grandma got to watch Cam which allowed me an afternoon to go shopping in Caesars Palace for some post pregnancy clothes. We even got our first date night out to see the LOVE show at the Mirage! It was so fun but I was glad to get out of there haha.

Orange County

It was so nice to go home! Especially to spend time with loved ones! We enjoyed our time at home so much that we extended it by another 4 days. There’s just something special about Orange County and it will always be home to us, even though we are currently living in Denver. It was so fun to introduce Cam to friends, family and to the beach! Oh my goodness, that was one of the highlights of the trip for us. It was so precious to see his face light up when he touched the sand.

San Diego

One of the days that we were home, we made a day trip down to San Diego. SD is hands down one of our favorite places. It’s just so beautiful, fun and so family friendly. Perfect place to spend a perfect summer day. We spent it walking along the boardwalk from Pacific Beach to Mission Bay, exploring Seaport Village and ending the day with dinner with a close friend.

This little getaway was unexpected and those are the absolute best. We had been having a rough patch there so thought it’d be fun to cash in on points and escape to the mountains. And fresh mountain air and unplugging was exactly what we needed. It was so nice to reconnect, have a nice dinner in town and hike around town. Breck is just so beautiful in the summer, wildflowers everywhere and everything is just so green! It’s breathtaking!

Collaboration with Glamping with Pets

Ok, by now if you follow my blog and Instagram you guys know that we love to bring Phoebe on all of our adventures. So when Glamping with Pets reached out to do a collaboration, I was so excited! We love to escape the city to spend time in nature. It’s just such a special way to get away from the hustle and bustle for a few days. So we were excited to spend a few days in Nederland over Labor Day Weekend at this dreamy getaway! I can’t wait to do a full write up and show you guys more. We took so many pictures so be ready!

So there it is! Quite the busy summer looking back on all of our adventures. Life has been so fun exploring with out little man and can’t wait to adventure out there some more!!
