17 Weeks Pregnancy Update

Wow! It’s crazy to think that 17 weeks of pregnancy have come and gone just like that. It’s so fun to think that I’m almost halfway there! I know the next month or so is going to fly by, with the holidays and all.

Since time has been flying, I thought it’d be fun to start a little weekly pregnancy update. I’ve found that the blogger community is amazing and love sharing this special time with you all. Reading other’s stories helps me feel not so alone in this pregnancy endeavor. It’s nice to have that camaraderie with fellow women who are going through (or who have been through) this pregnancy journey.

So even if we don’t know each other personally, common experiences bring us together, right? Just having you guys here makes me feel like I’m not in this alone and helps me enjoy my pregnancy that much more 🙂 I can’t wait to share my journey with y’all and feel some sort of kinship as we embark on this chapter of parenthood together.

I have to say, there have been parts of this pregnancy that have been easy, but also really rough. Mainly the fatigue and exhaustion, which has been on a whole other level!!

Regardless of how shitty I feel, I keep telling myself, “Chloe, this could be a lot worse…”

I’ve been lucky to have hit my pregnancy milestones beautifully (words my OB used, not me) and feel very fortunate about that. Since it’s been a pretty easy road (despite the migraines, bad dry heaving & exhaustion), I keep waiting for this pregnancy thing to turn rough. And unfortunately, it did this past weekend.

I want to gain a healthy weight (aiming for max 30 lbs – so far 6!) and I’ve been tracking my steps while aiming for a goal of 10,000/each day. I want to be healthy and keep pregnancy complications, such as gestational diabetes & hypertension, at bay as much as possible.

With this past weekend being Thanksgiving weekend, the hubby was off work Thursday-Sunday and we spent a good amount of time being active. You know, to save room for the turkey, pie and the fixings 🙂 On Friday, we got pretty aggressive, walking nearly +15,000 steps, and I felt it’s effect later that night….

The case of the mean ligament pains…

All of week 17, I was feeling horrible ligament pain, but not bad enough to call my doctor. I have a really high pain tolerance, so a part of me grew concerned when I was in so much pain. Since this is my first pregnancy and I’m new to this rodeo, I wasn’t sure if this was normal. 

Well, Friday night – early Saturday rolls around and I was just plain miserable. I had what felt like severe period cramps and couldn’t find any relief, no matter which way I laid. On top of that, the nausea and near-vomiting was unbearable. I even tried to throw up and no relief (sorry, TMI but if you’re prego, you may understand the struggle!!). Let me just sum up the experience as horrible. But I kept thinking to myself, “Chloe, it could be worse…” 

Somehow, by the grace of God, I was able to fall asleep and woke up to my husband coming in to check in on me. Since he fell asleep on the couch, he didn’t know I was struggling the entire night. Josh appeared to be a little concerned since I never sleep in and it was almost 10 am.

I began to tell him what I experienced and suggested that maybe I call my doctor. Luckily, I was able to get in contact with the on-call Ob/Gyn and she explained that this is normal and that unfortunately, some women suffer from ligament pain more severely than others. Sadly, I am just one of those women who experience this and it comes along with the territory of my pregnancy. She suggested I take it easy and take some Tylenol to give me some relief.

So while I didn’t suffer from vomiting, I suffered from brutal ligament pains. I thought the second trimester was supposed to get easier? I’ve found that when one symptom dies down, another flares (probably not the prettiest word choice) up! All I keep thinking is that it’s not that bad and just keep charging on. Because in all reality, “it could be a lot worse…”

How is everything else going?

Everything else seems to be going really good during my 17 weeks! I’m looking into taking some prenatal yoga and exercise classes. I figured it’d be a great way to meet fellow mamas to be in the Denver metro while also doing something healthy for me & baby.

Oh, and I am so happy to share that we finally purchased our first baby items!! I know, I know, this seems like this would be the first thing new parents would do! There was a part of us that wanted to wait to see what we were having first before buying a ton of baby stuff. But with Black Friday being Black Friday, the deals were too good to pass up. Since we won’t know what we’re having until December 8th, we decided to buy some gender neutral onesies, socks, and bibs. We figured, the baby will definitely use this right?

I’m so glad that we did! We wound up scoring big at Target and got 15 onesies, 5 bibs, and some adorable socks for under $35! Everything is so cute and all has little animals on it, which of course we both loved since we’re huge animal lovers!! It kind of made it feel more real that this baby was coming. We’ve decided to put more money aside to start saving for bigger purchases, such as the stroller and nursery items.

Also, we’re planning a few last big trips before baby Hahn arrives! First up? New York City!! I’m so excited and I’ve never been!! I know, it’s diabolical but we’re thrilled to go and experience NYC together during the holidays. We’ll be taking off in just two weeks for a few days so can’t wait to share all the yummy eats, shopping & site seeing we’ll be doing. You know I’ll be all about that New York style pizza and black & white cookies. Major #foodporn.

    It seems the whole travel blogging community is getting pregnant!! It’s amazing. I loved your post, I am 26 weeks and the exhuastion is the worst, especially as I’m still working full time. I keep telling myself “it could be worse” too and I am so greatful that everything is going as it should be and baby seems happy kickcing away and keeping me awake.

    I haven’t written anything pregnancy related on my blog but reading yours makes me want to, because it’s so comforting to read about like-minded people going through the same thing!

    My advice if you want to keep active is to try swimming. I’m a keen runner so I was gutted when I could no longer run comfortably but swimming takes the weight off everything and keeps you fit and active. I’ve even tried a few aqua aerobics classes (which I always need to pop to the loo in the middle of).
